| Box 2.28: Partnerships for sustainable development of Small Island Developing States |
In preparation for the International Meeting to Review the Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in Mauritius (10-14 January 2005), the United Nations compiled a list of multi-stakeholder initiatives and partnerships, including various UN system organizations, that support the sustainable
development of SIDS. Sub-regional or global in scope, the partnerships cover tourism, energy, biodiversity, water, agriculture, waste management, marine resources, rural development and disaster management and vulnerability. Many involve capacity building and technology transfer as key elements in their implementation. |
